A Brief History

In 1990 the General Council of the Reformed Episcopal Church created the Special Jurisdiction of North America (SJNA) to develop and care for parishes west of the Mississippi River. The territory assigned covered 27 States. Bishop Royal U Grote, Jr was elected the Missionary Bishop and, in July of 1991, moved to Houston, Texas. At that time there were 5 missions and 1 parish in the Special Jurisdiction. In 1996, the SJNA was merged with the Synod of Chicago (The oldest Diocese in the REC) and was renamed the Diocese of Mid-America. Since that time, the DMA has divided twice by creating the Diocese of Central States and the Diocese of the West. The Lord has seen fit to continue to bless the DMA with consistent annual growth of Parishes. The Diocese of Mid-America currently has a geographical territory including Arkansas, Colorado, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Lousiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Oklahoma, Texas, Wisconsin, Wyoming and original parishes in Arizona and California.

Parish Certifications
Every parish must complete a certification form regardless of whether anyone from the parish attends Synod. If a certification is not completed, then any representatives who attend Synod will not be certified to vote on behalf of the parish.

This certification should be completed by the minister in charge of the parish or by the person he appoints. To complete the form, you will need to know basic membership statistics and the names of duly elected representatives (delegates & alternates) for this Synod.
